Coming up: History News This Week - Episode: 001
Namaste Friends. My name is 'Shinil Subramanian Payamal' and you are listening to the Historylogy podcast.
As promised in the trailer of this podcast, I am starting a ‘History News This Week’ category where I will be talking briefly about interesting happenings/findings in the world of History, Archaeology, latest book launches, History podcast recommendation, etc…I will be posting this on Sundays at 9:30 PM IST i.e. 04:00 PM GMT.
The first piece of news is headlined:
India threatens colonial 'reckoning' for Britain as it prepares to ask for the return of legendary treasures including priceless Koh-i-Noor diamond used in Crown Jewels published on ‘Daily Mail Online.’
The primary objective of officials in New Delhi is to secure the return of the Koh-i-Noor diamond - one of the crown jewels currently held in trust for the king - alongside thousands of other artefacts taken to Britain hundreds of years ago by imperial explorers.
The reclamation of historical artefacts is a primary goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration.
Some of the other artefacts that India is going to ask for are:
1. An eleventh century statue of Lord Shiva as Nataraja
2. Buddha's Footprints
3. A gem-encrusted gold finial from the octagonal golden throne of Tipu Sultan
4. A throne from about 1820 of Ranjit Singh's court richly worked sheets of gold
5. Lord Harihara idol
The second piece of news is about two months old but very important, hence I am mentioning it here.
Headlined, Inside the Great Pyramid of Giza's hidden chamber: Scientists get FIRST glimpse into mysterious 30ft-long corridor 'likely created to redistribute 4,500-year-old monument's weight' it is published on ‘Daily Mail Online.’
The third news is about a ‘2,000-year-old 'modern society' unearthed in a tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh's Bandhavgarh National Park’ published on the Times of India’s website.
Coming to the book launch news, it’s about author Venkatesh Rangan’s third book titled ‘Bharat’s Military Conquests in Foreign Lands’. The launch is scheduled on the 21st of May, 2023 07:30 PM IST LIVE on Zoom. Along with the launch, there will also be a discussion between the author and Prof. P. Kanagasabapathi. I am sure Mr. Rangan’s third book will be just as interesting, if not more, like his previous two books. Review and giveaway of the book coming soon.
History podcast recommendation of the week:
‘Dark History’ by Bailey Sarian has been recommended to me by many people and also finds mention on more than a few occasions in the book ‘Tools of Titans’ by Tim Ferris.
