Coming up: History News This Week - Episode: 006

Namaste Friends. My name is 'Shinil Subramanian Payamal' and you are listening to the Historylogy podcast.

Welcome to the 6th episode of History News This Week. Please note that History News This Week will be online every Sunday at 09:30 PM Indian Standard Time i.e. 04:00 PM GMT.

First up is news about how King Tutankhamun might have actually died.

It's long been believed that Tutankhamun died from an open wound as he was increasingly weakened by malaria.

But one Egyptologist has now proposed a controversial new theory, suggesting the Boy King may have died in a drink-driving crash.

Sofia Aziz, an award-winning independent researcher, believes the 'typical teenager' was killed in the aftermath of a high-speed chariot accident while boozed-up on wine.

It was this disaster that gave him life-threatening leg fractures which became infected and led to a slow death, she claims.

Second news is about archaeologists having stumbled upon an extremely rare Bronze Age sword at an ancient burial site in Germany.

The weapon, believed to be 3,000 years old, was dug up in the small town of Nördlingen last week.

Experts were shocked it was so well preserved that it actually shined, despite laying in a grave of three people.

Third is about chilling never-before-seen photos of the first transport of Polish civilians to Auschwitz that have been discovered after lying forgotten for over 80 years.

The harrowing images, taken on 14th June, 1940, show 728 Poles being herded down streets from a prison in the city of Tarnow.

The recently released photos were discovered after an author in Tarnow received them out of the blue from a man in Canada.

Fourth is about archaeologists who may have solved the mystery of the origins of two boat paintings detailed inside a cave in Australia.

Hundreds of years ago, in a cramped cave, Indigenous people in Australia painted a pair of watercraft whose origins have puzzled archaeologists since the artworks' discovery about 50 years ago. Now, a new study may have solved the mystery: The paintings likely depict "fighting craft" from what is now Indonesia, hinting that there may have been "physical violence" between the Indigenous people and visitors from afar.

Fifth is about the oldest ever Homo sapiens footprint being found, pushing the record back by 30,000 years.

Coming to the latest book release, it is ‘How to Survive History: How to Outrun a Tyrannosaurus, Escape Pompeii, Get Off the Titanic, and Survive the Rest of History's Deadliest Catastrophes’ by Cody Cassidy.
